Conscious Food & Travel
Food travels. Through indenture, migration and immigration. So what does that tell us about people? Do we define food or is it the other way round.
KhabaarCo offers curated culinary travel retreats that are mindful of local traditions, focused on learning from food historians and local chefs and gaining a deep understanding of how to be better community members in this world. These retreats select foods like corn, mezcal, tea, understand their origin, history, and how people changed the foods over time.
In our Joshua Tree retreat, we highlight local San Diego produce (okra, avocado, agave), meditation and journaling workshops, cooking and cocktail demos alongside conversations with local culinary stars.
In our Oaxaca retreat, we trace the origins of corn, and mezcal, and focus on local Oaxacan chefs, mole making, mushroom foraging in the Cuajimoloyas mountains and experience the beauty of indigenous cuisine and what it tells us about people–with writing, conversations with local food leaders, market visits and culinary/writing workshops.
